CIRCUIT CAST Episode 52: Josette Chiang - Coastline Paradox
“She said I should avoid the Pākehā books on Māori mythology and … take a look in the kids’ section instead.”
How to respond to a place that is not your own? Hong Kong artist Josette Chiang talks to Mark Amery about Coastline Paradox, an installation at Toi Poneke Gallery in Wellington made over three months as part of the Wellington Asia Residency Exchange programme (WARE). Coastline Paradox addresses various systems of mapping used to gauge 7000 years of coastal uplift etched on to the landscape of the Turakirae Head Scientific Reserve.
Josette Chiang's residency was supported by Wellington City Council, Asia New Zealand Foundation and CIRCUIT.
