Pulp Fan Fiction is a reconstruction of the full-length feature film Pulp Fiction using fan remakes, re-enactments and parodies sourced from YouTube and Vimeo. Over the last three years Dick Whyte has lovingly stitched together more than 400 fan videos to recreate the two-and-a-half hour film, ranging from the comical to the critical, the ridiculous to the reverent, the silly to the sublime.
The film’s first frame is a window frame, fogged at the edges with breath from inside, or with cold from outside: it’s not immediately clear if we are inside or out. Just discernible in the cool wet-day light are domestic objects—the edge of a potted cheese plant, a wooden table and chair back, spoons, a pepper grinder, a towel and a lamp. Interrupting and across these run light-saturated projections of landscape images from an ‘outside’ somewhere, or other surfaces which reflect and filter and complicate the familiar interior.
Beautiful Creatures brings together three artists: doyen of New American cinema Jack Smith (1932-1989); leading contemporary Australian photographer Bill Henson (b. 1955); and Jacqueline Fraser (b. 1956), who has presented temporary installations and wall-based works in New Zealand, Australia, Europe and the USA since the late 1970s. Each treats the youthful body as a form of aesthetic material, creating striking tableaux that connect with the viewer expressly through the effects of the visual.
Auckland artist Alex Monteith explores high performance surfing in this new video work. A collaboration with Doug Young and exponents of Aotearoa's Big Wave Surfing community.

Led by renowned curator Hou Hanru, If you were to live here... includes work by more than 30 New Zealand and international artists, collectives and architects. The international artists exhibiting at ST PAUL St are Ho Tzu Nyen (Singapore) and Shahzia Sikander (Pakistan).
