Diddly Squat is one of three performances about money commissioned for the 4th 7a*11d International Performance Festival, Toronto (2002). The artist worked for 30 hours scraping gum off the sidewalk of Queen Street West in Toronto's art district.
The performance took place from 2pm Friday 8 November to 8pm, Saturday 9 November 2002 (30 hrs). The location was Queen St W from Bathurst St to University Ave, Spadina Ave from Queen St W to Art System.
The first performance consisted of the artist performing 30 hours of community work. The second performance consisted of the artist publicly nominating a vacant building in the city as an official squat by placing the internationally recognized squat sign on the door and/or a window of the building. The third performance took place at the conclusion of the artists community work in the gallery, where Barber is seen here reading aloud personal identification numbers from bank cards and other documentation held in his wallet.
