As a constructed space, the exam room is exhausting in its banality. Stripped bare of any visual information or distractions, it operates as a collectively occupied void—a battleground for the interrogation of memory, an exercise in justification and communication.

On the last day of the Enjoy Art Book Fair, Enjoy is pleased to host a series of conversations that consider the distribution of art and creative practice through printed and online media. With presentations from Cassandra Barnett (Black Marks on a White Page), Matthew Galloway, and Caitlin Patane (Art+Australia), the talks will consider visual art’s place alongside literature, self-publishing as an artistic and political practice, and the shifting role of art magazines within our current publishing climate.

Informed by research into neuroscience, artists Astrid Visser and Alexia George delve into the workings of the mind, examining the Cartesian idea that the mind and body are distinct substances.

Is the brain a super computer? Or is there more to the grey matter that makes us human? Experience the brain on a macro scale through sculptural light forms made from fibre optic cable, and wearables made from computer components alongside moving image.

Isabella Loudon’s hand-formed concrete and fabric sculptures perceive vulnerability at the edge of collapse. I do not want to be a fool humours the risks the artist takes to push the material to its limits. Referencing her own body through scale and mark making, she exposes herself to the constant possibility of failure. An accompanying series of video works dislodge the sculptures and add a layer of uncertainty.
