Max Fleury is an artist based in Pōneke. His practice documents performances and objects through video and photography. Fleury completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours at Massey University. Since graduating in 2018, he has worked on various collaborative projects that investigate the commons through vernacular forms of video influenced by vlogs and slideshows. Topics covered in his works on CIRCUIT include e-scooters, op shopping, public art, and pop music. Taking these topics and experimenting with editing conventions and modes of presentation, his work reframes and sometimes elevates mundane aspects of everyday life. He is a facilitator at play_station ARI and works in an art supplies store.
Recent exhibitions include: Blue Nylon (with Bena Jackson), Homestead Galleries, Tāmaki Makaurau, 2024; Max Speed, play_station, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, 2022; be the hero of your own movie (with Anna Brimer), Toi Pōneke, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington, 2021; and Same thing every day (with Bena Jackson), Window Gallery, Tāmaki Makaurau, 2020.
