Richard Maloy was born in New Zealand in 1977, He studied at the University of Auckland and graduated with a master's degree in Fine Arts in 2002. Maloy works across a range of disciplines including sculpture, photography and video. In 2008 The New Zealand Film Archive (Auckland) exhibited 'New Work Old Work' a selection of Maloy's video works from 1998-2008. In 2009 Maloy was awarded the inaugural Fulbright Wallace Award, and in 2010 traveled to the US as a visiting Fulbright Scholar, completing an artist residency at the Headlands Centre of the Arts in San Francisco.
