Yvonne Todd

Yvonne Todd is an Auckland-based artist with an interest in manipulating the conventional and familiar. Her reworking of cultural and photographic tropes and clichés results in unsettling portrait and still life images which are often juxtaposed to form unexpected and provocative relationships.

Todd's work has been included in many major exhibitions including solo exhibitions at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne and Dunedin Public Art Gallery (2012), The 17th Biennale of Sydney (2010), Unnerved at the National Gallery of Victoria and the Queensland Art Gallery (2010), 3.Fotofestival in Mannheim, Germany (2009), a major solo exhibition at the Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane (2007) with an accompanying book, High Tide (Warsaw and Vilnius, 2006), Break: Construct (Govett-Brewster Art Gallery 2006), the Busan Biennale (Republic of Korea, 2006), Mixed-up Childhood (Auckland Art Gallery, 2005), and Prospect (City Gallery, Wellington, 2004). She received a major commission from the Queensland Art Gallery in 2008. In 2002 she won the inaugural Walters Prize.
