A Woman On A Mission

The performance takes place within a framework that guides the actor towards inactivity, rather than behaviour that has a specific object. Eventually, an extended idle moment leads to the creation of a spontaneous sculpture. Does this count as a ‘mission’, in the literal sense of the word? The action can be seen as a purposeful attempt to value idleness, or as a simple waste of time. The political ramifications of the scenario thus emerge from the prior belief one holds regarding the value of commercial labour and art production.

Part of the ‘Work’ project (2008), an investigation into the relationship between productivity and identity.
