Object Permanence (excerpts)

281716251

An interrogation of the concept of permanence in energies and objects, from nuclear radiation to Art History. In part 1 of these three excerpts, Brennan addresses nuclear accidents in Chernobyl (Russia) and Fukushima (Japan). In part 2 she details an abandoned plan to build a nuclear power station by the Kaipara harbour (New Zealand). In part 3 she discusses a 1980 artwork by American artist Richard Long, who walked from from a water wheel to a nuclear power plant, a performance of which Brennan can find no documentation. On the soundtrack we hear the sound of a geiger counter (parts 1 and 2), and in part 3 we hear the sound of evening insects.
