On Planting a Native (2014)

36 min 56 secSingle channel / Digital Video / Colour / Sound

On Planting a Native was first performed in 1976 at the Experimental Art Foundation in Adelaide, Australia. The original performance was a response to the removal of a Tony Coleling sculpture from the Adelaide Arts Festival.

In this 2014 re-performance Jim Allen uses a chainsaw to dismember a native tree placed in a Terracotta pot. Allen reassembles the tree, taping up the stem, branches and leaves to the white wall of the gallery.
