Speaking without words (2019)

1 min 22 secSingle channel / Digital Video / Black & White / Sound

"Using both pro- and anti-transgender language, and a hybrid internet meets archaic language inspired by the poet Jos Charles, this work exposes the manipulation and contradiction of transmisogynist statements."

Artist's statement

Speaking without words shows a black background on which white words appear. These are frequently misspelt, or spelt phonetically.

Winter has said in an interview with the Gus Fisher Gallery, "The video Speaking without words is an amalgamation of phrases, both from pro-trans and anti-trans people, with the intention of exposing and rerouting some of the damaging language through language play."
