CIRCUIT is delighted to announce that Antonia van Sitter (Te Māhurehure, Ngāti Rangi, Ngāti Whakaue) has been commissioned to produce her first moving image work for Matariki 2024.

Curated by CIRCUIT's Kaitiaki Kiriata Tanya Te Miringa Te Rorarangi Ruka (Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Pakau and Waitaha), the 2024 Matariki Commission supports an emerging wahine Māori artist to make a new work.

This will be the fifth year that CIRCUIT has commissioned an artist to make a new video work in response to Matariki, which will premiere on Masons Screen in central Pōneke, Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington in July.

Antonia van Sitter has recently completed a Masters in Architecture reimagining the practice with indigenous methodologies. She is currently working for GHA, a kaupapa Māori-led consultancy firm focusing on community resilience for Iwi Māori. Mānawatia te Whenua, Mānawatia te Tangata (2024) will be her first moving image work, and will also become part of the touring programme Rematriation, curated by Tanya Ruka.
