Located in the heart of Wellington’s CBD at Level 2, 27 Dixon St, Wellington, the new CIRCUIT space is designed to support CIRCUIT’s day to day work. At the same time, the new premises will also allow space to present seasonal programmes of screenings, installations, residencies and artist meetings.
Over the past 14 years CIRCUIT has built up a network of partnerships in Aotearoa and worldwide. While this will continue, Director Mark Williams says “This is a significant milestone in the history of CIRCUIT that will make us more public facing, and allows us space to present our own projects alongside those of visiting artists. We’re looking forward to being more visible in the local arts eco system.”
In 2026 CIRCUIT will base much of its onsite programme around a series of artist residencies and workshops. A publication surveying 40 artists’ works commissioned by CIRCUIT from 2015-25 will be published early in the new year. A new collection of artist cinema commissions are currently being developed with Indian curator Anuj Malhotra for premiere in 2026.
In the meantime, CIRCUIT will launch its new premises on 10 December 2025 with an installation by Mike Heynes entitled Proudly Brought to You in Standard Definition. Working “in the shadow of Wellywood”, Heynes’ practice offers a Situationist critique of the film industry and its spectacular technologies. Proudly Brought to You in Standard Definition runs until 20 December. More info here.
