CIRCUIT commissions and publishes engaging, critical writing on moving image practice in Aotearoa. We are looking to expand our list of contributors—if you are an art writer with an idea for our website, we would love to hear from you.

CIRCUIT welcomes writing on contemporary moving image art and culture that is lively and rigorously engaged with form and content as well as current ideas and debates. We are now accepting pitches for essays, artist profiles, exhibition reviews or interviews of approximately 1500–2000 words. For examples of recent writing, please check out our Writing & Podcast page here.

How to apply:

  • Please send your proposal to CIRCUIT's Editor at online@circuit.org.nz with a subject line that starts with the word PITCH and goes on to indicate the submission type (review, essay, interview, etc.).

  • Include a concise summary of your subject, how you'll approach it and why it is worth exploring now. Please include any relevant links or images, and a proposed estimated word count.

  • Keep this to a maximum of 200 words (one to two paragraphs).

  • If you are unsure of how to structure your pitch, we suggest following this template:

    • Working title

    • Pitch

    • Article type

    • Key artists/interviewees

    • Relevant links

  • If you have not written for us before, please tell us a bit about yourself and include one or two writing samples.

Fee

We accept pitches on an ongoing basis and will endeavour to respond within 10 days.
