"This project involved students and faculty from Boise State University Art Department in a semi-reenactment of Raphael’s The School of Athens (1510–11). Rather than the homogenous cultural elite of Raphael’s painting, which depicts philosophers, scientists and artists of classical Greece and the high Renaissance, we see an ordinary and diverse group of students. This project aimed to open up a conversation around civic agency and ‘group’ identity by tracing a shift between a ‘staged’ informal gathering of people, which recalls day-to-day campus life or a similar public meeting space into this formal tableau from another era."
