As a result of the New Zealand Settlements Act 1863, the Crown confiscated 1.2 million acres of land in Taranaki. In the 1880s, Thomas Joll established a chain of privately-owned dairy factories around Ōkaiawa. In this work, Murray Hewitt documents the present day occupation of land in the area.
