11 min 48 secSingle channel / Digital Video / Colour / Sound

Ponc Pontio was a live performance by Mark Harvey created in homage to the slate mine workers of Gwynedd, Wales, who helped to found Bangor University. In this work, Harvey carried local slate slabs up the hill to the university. The performance was hosted and presented by Pontio Arts Centre in Bangor, Gwynedd, Wales, on 25 April 2025.

Ponc Pontio was performed with the assistance of local participants, including Alun Davies, who during its enactment sang an accompanying Welsh hymn.

At the end of the performance, Harvey and the audience members discussed the meanings of the text and symbols on each slab of slate. (The slabs were re-used slate tiles, commonly used in local houses.) The slates were engraved by Alun Davies and represented the names of some of the local slate mines and related messages.
