Right Back To The Future (2011)

2 minutes, 28 secondsSingle channel / Colour / Sound

A series of public figures discuss unemployment and it’s consequences. The video repeatedly cuts between interviews and a repeated statement from Suzanne Snively (Reserve Bank Board of Directors 1985-92) who says that the Reserve bank strategically used unemployment as a device “to get wages down... it was far easier than any other means of getting inflation down. So they used it”.

Other onscreen figures are introduced as Brian Easton, Economist; Paula Bennett, Minister of Employment 2011; Sam Jamieson Director of Employment Labour Dept. 1976-1987 and John Key, Prime Minster 2011.
