Originally presented as part of the solo exhibition, Da Shi Jie/The Great World: Shanghai Works 2009-2010, at Toi Poneke Gallery in Wellington, New Zealand (2011). In 2012 Shanghai Shorts has also been presented at the Dunedin Public Art Gallery (window work), Calder Lawson Gallery, Waikato University (in the group exhibition Raised Voices, curated by Karl Chitham) and School of Visual Arts, New York (in the group exhibition Global Positioning System - So You Say You Want a Revolution, curated by Keren Moscovitch).

"I moved to Shanghai in 2009. It was my first time in China and being Chinese, I was keen to find some cultural resonance. I happened to live an hour north of the city and the back seat of the bus became my mobile office where I would write, think and take pictures and clips out of the window. What I found was a city moving, shifting, changing and reinventing itself every day. I found these gentle movements through the city day and night as a rich source of inspiration and provided much insight into everyday life over there."
