The Quarry (2013)

11 min 30 secSingle channel / Digital Video / Colour / Sound

Fractured rock forms and pastoral scenes are interspersed as naturalistic and abstracted motifs in this experimental essay film. Shot in Canterbury and post-earthquake Christchurch, The Quarry witnesses the city’s suburban rebuild while also documenting planned sites for new housing developments. The film calls on John Ruskin’s meditations on architectural form to explore the relationship between architectural values and town planning aspirations for a new Christchurch.
