The Legacies Reader was produced to accompany the 2022 Artist Cinema Commissions, which premiered at Artspace Aotearoa, 2 September–22 October 2022.

The reader includes an introductory curatorial text by May Adadol Ingawanij that introduces her curatorial thinking and influences, a generous essay by archivist and writer, Huni Mancini, and an elegiac and award-winning 2016 short story by Tina Makereti, Black Milk.

The five artists who made works for the Artist Cinema Commissions, Pati Tyrell, Sriwhana Spong, Martin Sagadin, Edith Amituanai, and Ukrit Sa-nguanhai also contributed short texts to the reader, and provided insights into their working processes.

The Legacies Reader is designed by Eva Charlton, and edited by Thomasin Sleigh.
