Julian Dashper was born in New Zealand in 1960. He graduated from Elam School of Fine Arts in 1982. He died in 2009.
He has exhibited extensively throughout New Zealand, Australia, Europe and United States. His work is included in all the major public collections in New Zealand and in several museums internationally (Sydney; Aachen; Lincoln, Nebraska; Wichita, Kansas and also notably the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam). In 2001 he was the recipient of a senior Fulbright fellowship, and was artist-in-residence at the Chinati Foundation in Marfa,Texas. In 2006 his work was the subject of a mid-career touring retrospective in the United States.
