Latamai Katoa

Latamai Katoa is an interdisciplinary artist based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. Their practice explores memory, identity, and the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit through moving image, photography, installation, and sculpture. Working with domestic architecture, archival material, and staged environments, Katoa examines how personal and collective histories are embedded within everyday objects and spaces.

Their moving image and installation works consider themes of visibility, repair, and the ethics of looking, exploring how boundaries between private and public, memory and material, are continuously negotiated. Recent exhibitions include What happens if it’s broken? at Enjoy Contemporary Art Space (2026), Nostalgia Archive at Wheke Fortress (2025–26), and HAUMI Ē HUI Ē at Te Waka Tūhura Elam Galleries (2024).
