Thomasin Sleigh is writer, art critic, and editor. She has published two novels with Lawrence & Gibson, Ad Lib (2014), and Women in the Field, One and Two (2018).
In 2022 Thomasin was CIRCUIT's Writer in Residence. She produced the publication The Legacies Reader, which was developed in parallel with the production of a new suite of artist moving image works commissioned by CIRCUIT entitled Legacies. The reader was themed according to one of the curatorial prompts sent to the artists — 'What does a legacy taste, smell, sound, feel, or look like?'
The five artists were Edith Amituanai, Martin Sagadin, Ukrit Sa-nguanhai, Sriwhana Spong, Pati Tyrell. As each artist continued to make their film for the premiere at Artspace in August 2022, they were invited to contribute to the reader by presenting as aspect of their working process — "a short written response, or some images, or a song, a recipe, a story, or anything that this question prompts for you". Alongside the artists contributions, the Legacies reader included fiction and an essay by Tina Makereti and Huni Mancini.
The Legacies reader accompanies touring iterations of the show, and is available now via the CIRCUIT website as a free pdf download.
