Our psychological architecture is erected to ensure we know what we are doing moment by moment, or to compensate for uncertainty, despite the multitude of systems, biomes and entities beyond our direct conscious influence. Telling stories is one way to instill a degree agency but in A Woman Walking Away From Fate, narrative cause is conspicuously absent as a tumultuous breakdown leads to a surprising transformation. The visceral emotional display is uncomfortably exposed with minimal context, focusing attention on the actor’s performance as it moves hysterically through anger, defiance, despair and triumph."
