The Milkmaid

“In this work, I explored the functionality of the feminine body in a melancholy and satirical performance of making bread using the yeast of my vaginal discharge. The work sought to escape a sexual relation to my genitalia and explore a ‘practical’, ‘homemaking’ and obscurely domesticated function of my sex. Through the act of ’milking’ myself, the work also plays with ideas of reproduction associated with the production of food, feeding and giving life. In a performative continuation of the work, I fed the vagina bread to a group of people. For this iteration the work was renamed Eating Out. This work was heavily inspired by Martha Rosler’s Semiotics of the Kitchen (1975).” - Artist Statement
