You Will Never Be Alone In This Room (2011)

17 min 31 secSingle channel / Digital Video / Colour / Sound

"This video is about political prisoners, madness and people who were put in jail because of their ideologies (religion or beliefs that their government does not support). To create a visual metaphor I was trying to make an old fashioned window with steel bars, as a representation of the prison cell. For sound, (I wanted) something powerful as a contrast, using repetitiveness, roughness and scratchiness. My idea for the soundtrack came from thinking about political prisoners alone in the cell, exposed to a series torture events, from psychological to physical. Also reading Steve Goodman's book Sonic Warfare - Sound, Affect, and the Ecology of Fear (2009), and watching Al Jazeera every week"
