You are invited to the launch of CIRCUIT: Dialogues in Artist Moving Images, a new contemporary art publication which celebrates a decade of artist moving image production in Aotearoa New Zealand from 2015–2025. At once an archive, survey, and richly visual publication, the book brings together 46 films commissioned through CIRCUIT’s annual programme, each developed through an extended dialogue between an artist and an international curator. Published by CIRCUIT, the launch features editor Jess Clifford in conversation with curator Christina Barton and artist Martin Sagadin.

Designed by Eva Charlton, and generously illustrated with stills from each of the commissioned films, CIRCUIT: Dialogues in Artist Moving creates a vivid record of a decade of artist moving image practice in Aotearoa. Alongside the images the publication includes a text on each commissioned work, and essays from CIRCUIT curators based in UK, Asia, USA, Singapore, USA and Australia. A new essay by CIRCUIT Director Mark Williams reflects on the development of artist moving image practice in Aotearoa over the past decade, tracing the evolution of CIRCUIT’s international partnerships and their impact on the visibility of Aotearoa moving image practice locally, nationally, and internationally.

With its combination of bold graphic design, extensive visual documentation, critical writing, and artist profiles, CIRCUIT: Dialogues in Artist Moving Image is both a record of the programme and a substantial visual document of a significant period in Aotearoa’s moving image history.
