Blue Ted in Andalucia, Joya AiR (2023)

3 min 34 secSingle channel / Digital Video / Colour / Sound

Amanda Newall created a life-sized costume of a favourite soft toy, Blue Ted, while on an artist residency in Andalucia, Spain in 2020. Like the original—a gift from Newall's grandmother—it's made from faux fur with synthetic stuffing, but this Blue Ted has a plastic tube behind its ears so the wearer can breathe. Shot in the local landscape, Blue Ted in Andalucia sees the artist take on the outsized mantle of her childhood companion in the sweltering desert heat.

“Blue Ted is from memory, a human scale replica of the first teddy bear my grandmother purchased for me when I was newly born.”
