The Ballet (2025)

9 mins 28 secSingle channel / Digital Video / VHS / Colour / Sound

In moving image work, The Ballet (2025), siblings Sophie and Oscar Bannan use existing dance films made of and by the siblings over the past thirty years. The intention of the film is to enable a meeting a point between their collages and their preoccupation with the performing body. It offers various lenses through which to view their body of work, Chicken Poems, shifting in register from Yvonne Rainer’s Trio A, first performed in 1978, to Tumblr era bedroom self-takes.

Chicken Poems (2025) is a body of collaborative and parallel work by Oscar and Sophie Bannan commissioned by the Gus Fisher Gallery’s Changing Room programme, that includes collage, photography, video and sculpture. Each work is conceived as a visual poem that explores radical intimacies with time, and the creation of meaning through image/object relationships.
