Xi Li

Xi Li (李曦) is a Chinese-born interdisciplinary artist, researcher, and arts educator based in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. Her practice spans moving image, installation, digital media, sculpture, 3D fabrication, virtual environments, games, and material-based practices including ice.

Her research explores how reality, identity, belief, and collective imagination are constructed through material, symbolic, technological, and spatial systems. Working across physical and digital environments, she develops speculative and research-led projects engaging with cultural memory, landscape, diaspora, contemporary network culture, ideology, spirituality, and mediated realities. Her ongoing projects include Brain Island (2019), The Idol Reveal (2021), and Ice Blueprint (2024), which approach these questions through fictional worlds, symbolic systems, contemporary mythology, landscape, materiality, and digital environments.

Recent solo exhibitions include Ice Blueprint: Northern Pieces (2025) at The Kit, Artspace Aotearoa, Auckland; The Transcendence Labyrinth of Idols at Te Tuhi; The Generation of The Hyperreal at The Arts House Trust; and Spirit Ether at The Physics Room Contemporary Art Space.
