Air Guitar continues a long-running interest in Carr’s practice to investigate the predominantly male youth cultures of boy racers, bogans and heavy metal. Carr is a dry ice-wreathed artist engaged in the rapturous contortions of an air guitar epic. Representing a return to Carr’s southern roots, Air Guitar is an ode to his childhood as a South Island bogan: "That romantic bogan who dreamed of playing like Joe Satriani, listened to Guns ‘n’ Roses but also read Richard Bach’s Jonathan Livingston Seagull and played chess."
