This work considers Heidegger’s idea of ‘dwelling’ as a way of being that goes beyond merely occupying a physical space. It is about feeling ’at home’ by being present and connected to the world, both internally and externally. Using Indonesian batik textiles, Lee responds to the rhythms of her local environment in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland as well as to her inner world, shaped by her cultural heritage. Here, ‘dwelling’ means being grounded in place and time, where presence can be contemplative and possibly transformative.
